Gunman, 89, arrested in Athens had his shotgun taken away before ‘shooting spree’

A gunman has opened fire at a social security office and a courthouse in central Athens,wounding several people.

Police located the gunman,who Greek media said was an 89-year-old man.

Police said the man was armed with a shotgun and initially opened fire at a social security office in the centre of the Greek capital,wounding an employee.

The man,who was arrested in the western city of Patras later on Tuesday,where he had travelled by taxi.

He had a state pension rejected and reacted by leaving two bullet cases outside the prosecutors’ office.

The unnamed man was later diagnosed with mental health problems and treated in a psychiatric hospital,according to Greek outlet Ekathimerini.
